  • 1. Why does the water level drop so Fast during summer and not as much in winter?

The warmer sun increases evaporation and stronger winds also remove a lot of water from pools.

  • 2. Do I need to drain my pool each year?

No, you don’t need to drain your pool unless a professional informs you need to for repairs.

  • 3. What to do if I find a dead critter in my pool?

Add a pool sanitiser shock treatment and get a water test done ASAP if concerned.

  • 4. How do I measure water evaporation from my pool?

Set Up a Bucket Test. The Shop has written instructions on how to set one up.

  • 5. How do I remove calcium deposits from my tiles?

Spray with an acid and water solution and wipe off or scrub with a calcium scale eraser. Either way requires a lot of elbow grease for scrubbing.

  • 6. What is the black line around the water line?

Could be algae or from swimmer body fats, oils and sunscreens.

  • 7. How long do I have to wait to use my swimming pool after using chemical treatment?

Unless told otherwise or treating a problem – Usually 1 Hour is safe. Always have the pump running when adding chemicals.

  • 8. How often do I have to add salt to my saltwater pool?

Only when tested. Low Salt Warning Indicators aren’t reliable so get your water tested before adding salt.

  • 9. Can I change my salt pool to magnesium?

In most cases – Yes. Nearly any chlorinator will work with Magnesium.

  • 10. How much salts in the ocean?

Ocean Water is 35% Salt. We only use 3 to 6% in Swimming Pools.

  • 11. I still have chemicals left over from last season are they still okay to use?

Yes - In most cases Swimming Pool Chemicals last up to 5 years. Excluding liquid chlorine which starts to weaken in strength at 3 months old. If concerned, take a Photo to show us or bring them into the Shop before adding.

  • 12. Should I brush my pool regularly?

Unless the Pool Surface is wearing down – The more you brush the pool surface the better.

  • 13. What does it mean if I can smell chlorine?

What you can smell is dead Chlorine which means the Water contains some Impurities. It needs to be tested and a Shock Treatment added ASAP.

  • 14. What is the benefit of having a cleaner?

Leaves, dust and dirt are removed quicker which means they hopefully can’t create a bigger problem. It will also save you a lot of time in maintenance.

  • 15. What do I do if my pool goes cloudy?

Clean the Pool Filtration, get the water tested to see if your chlorine is low and add a clarifier and run the Pump until the Water is clear.

  • 16. Can my dog swim in the pool?

Yes. It just means you may need to run the pump extra for added filtration, chlorine and check phosphate levels.

  • 17. How do I add chemicals?

The safest way to add chemicals to the pool is to scoop a bucket of water from the pool, add the chemical to the bucket of water, dissolve and pour into the pool with the pump running.

  • 18. What are the benefits in saltwater systems?

A salt water system (chlorinator) will automatically dose your pool with chlorine. The benefits of this are you don’t need to measure and dose yourself every day or every week, the chlorine level is less likely to drop and cause algae to bloom in your pool. The chlorinator produces a chlorine gas, and this is a much cleaner purer products than any liquid or granular chlorines.

  • 19. What if dust is blowing back from my filter back into the pool?

If it is just dust, then clean your filter. If it still does it after a backwash, talk to your pool shop for advice. If you notice sand going back into your pool, it is a sign of a faulty filter.

  • 20. What do the chemicals in my pool do?

There are a variety of chemicals used in your pool. Acid and Chlorine are to aid sanitisation and help keep the pool clean, hardness or calcium are to protect the pool surface and your equipment, pH increaser or buffer are to assist in keeping the pH balanced, soften the water and to make it more gentle on your skin and eyes.
